A message from the Synod Clerk
Dear friends
I pass on to you a very sad and unexpected news which arrived from Scotland today. John Humphreys, who was Moderator of the National Synod of Scotland until his retirement a few months ago, died early this morning at home. John had been ill for just a few weeks, so his death will come as a great shock to all who knew him.
Dr Horatius Bonar wrote these words in a hymn:
Fading away like the stars of the morning,
Losing their light in the glorious sun—
Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling,
Only remembered by what we have done.
Chorus
Only remembered, only remembered,
Only remembered by what we have done;
Thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling,
Only remembered by what we have done.
John Proctor, our URC General Secretary writes: “Few of our URC people can have been more widely liked and respected. John was a man of great kindness and gentleness – wise, purposeful, caring, and deeply committed to our Church and its people.”
“Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith.” Hebrews 13:7.
The funeral service is to be private, and arrangements about a later public thanksgiving service will be made in due course.
Please remember his family, especially his partner John, together with his Mum and sister Gweno and her family in your prayers.
May John rest in peace and rise up in glory!
Yours in Christ,
Revd Derrick Dzandu-Hedidor
