Moderator attends London Mayoral Candidate Hustings

You will have seen in our news item here about the Hustings on Tuesday 19th April with London Mayoral Candidates.  This was an opportunity for an audience to ask Christian related questions. The Moderator – Revd Nicola Furley-Smith represented the URC and had the opportunity to meet the candidates beforehand. It was organised by Churches Together in South London and the Evangelical Alliance.

The Moderator took this picture of the candidates:-

This is the event report Churches Together in South London gave on Facebook:-

“It was great to meet the Mayoral candidates at a private reception with senior church leaders from South London: Rev Nicola Furley-Smith (URC Communications), Roger and Faith Forster (Ichthus Christian Fellowship), Rev Kumar Rajagopalan (London Baptist Association), Janet Veitch (London Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) in Britain) and Lieut-Colonel Suzanne Fincham (The Salvation Army UKI – London Central Division) at the London church hustings yesterday at Kensington Temple.

Following debate around the housing crisis, refugees, discrimination, safety and extremism, RC Auxiliary Bishop of Westminster, Nicholas Hudson, gave a closing prayer written recently by one radical Christian whom he greatly admires, and who has just brought 3 families of displaced people home.

Thanks to the Evangelical Alliance for organising this and for partnering with us a tChurches Together in South London.”
